About Us

About_Us_Image

Urania Kennel is committed strictly to Tollers. The name Urania comes from a locale near our home in Saline, MI., and it means “heavenly”. It signifies a new beginning for its owners, Corinne and Nelson Williams. Formerly we were known as Lonetree Kennel. Lonetree Kennel was established in 1989 by  Nelson and Evelyn Williams. Lonetree produced many champion Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers. Urania is building on that legacy.

Our Story

Urania (formerly Lonetree) Kennel continues the Lonetree tradition and remains a small kennel not producing puppies for every buyer.  Our litters are well-planned using breeding stock that has proven itself in many arenas.  We are continually striving to produce a dog that meets the breed standard and exhibits the hunting and tolling ability that sets it apart from the other retrieving breeds.

Breeding stock at Urania is OFA-certified free from hip dysplasia and is CERF-clear of any hereditary eye defects, heart and thyroid.  Written guarantees are provided.  Copies of OFA and CERF certificates are available.  We research pedigrees to determine not only the health of the sire and dam of the litter but their grandparents, aunts, and uncles and other siblings as well.  We are dedicated to breeding quality dogs free of heritable health problems.

Lonetree/Urania has several champions in the US and/or Canada as well as one Best In Specialty Show winner.  We own and have bred High-in-Trial dogs and currently own one of only six Tollers to earn the UKC/HRC Hunting Retriever Champion Title.  We are proud to own and have bred dogs who are titled in obedience, agility, field, and in the show ring.  We are active in all these areas to prove our stock is of high quality not only in the breed ring, but also in trainability and temperament.  These are the qualities that also make a dog a good companion and pet in your home.

Puppies are whelped and reared in our home and they are  socialized to a variety of situations.  A thorough evaluation of puppies is done to ensure proper placement in new homes.  We will have your puppy examined by a veterinarian before the pup leaves our home.  Puppies do not leave our home before 8 weeks.

We are AKC Breeders of Merit.  One or both of us are members in good standing of the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever Clubs in both the USA and Canada, Ann Arbor Dog Training Club, Marshbanks Golden Retriever Club, and the UKC Hunting Retriever Club.  Corinne teaches obedience classes at the AADTC and is an AKC hunt test judge.
